Edward Harry Argent

ARGENT, Edward Harry

Edward Harry Argent was born in Clacton, London in 1898 to Harry Edward Argent and Esther Elizabeth Terry, the second of their seven children. Harry gave his occupation in the 1901 and 1911 censuses as ‘Railway Signalman’. In 1901 the family was living in Bethell Avenue, West Ham but had moved to Marlowe Road in Walthamstow by 1911.

It is not known when Edward Argent enlisted but in October 1918 he was a Private in the Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry. He was probably with the 2/1st Regiment which had moved to Ireland in early 1918 and were in the Dublin area. Returning to England on leave he travelled on the 10th of October on RMS Leinster, but did not survive the sinking.

His body was recovered and he was buried in Grangegorman Military Cemetery in Dublin. His name is recorded on the Walthamstow War Memorial.
