People on boardBUGG, Ernest Ernest Bugg was born on the 11th of September 1899 in Sheffield, Yorkshire to Frederick Bugg and Ada Gurnhill. Frederick had been previously married to Clara Jones but she had died within two years, having given birth to a daughter. Ernest was the second of the six children born to Ada Bugg. Frederick was an ‘Electric Tram Car Fitter’ in a city where there was an extensive tramway system, run by the City Council and which was electrified by 1905. Ernest was enrolled in Carbrook Infant Board School in 1903. Ernest enlisted in the East Riding of Yorkshire Yeomanry. In October 1918 he was with the 2/1st Brigade, a training and reserve brigade, which had moved to Ireland in April 1918 and was based in Co Cork. Presumably returning home on leave he travelled on RMS Leinster on the 10th of October. He did not survive the sinking but his body was recovered and he was buried in Grangegorman Military Cemetery in Dublin. The name E. Bugg is recorded on the Sheffield and Eccleshall Co-Operative Society War Memorial. This may be Ernest.
