Digby Burns

BURNS, Digby L., Capt.

Captain Digby L. Burns was a member of the Royal Army Medical Corps returning to duty when he lost his life on the Leinster. He was the younger son of John William Burns and Elizabeth Davie, born 15th May 1883 at Prospect Villa in Glasnevin. The family was Presbyterian. As a young man, he was registered to vote at his parents’ address on Charleville Road in Glasnevin, Dublin. He was educated at Mountjoy College and the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, where he obtained his medical diploma in 1912. He moved to Liverpool and began medical practice there. Burns joined the army in 1916 and was commissioned as a captain. His estate was administered by his father in Liverpool.

He is buried in Grangegorman Military Cemetery in Dublin.
